When you picture national athletes, you might imagine high-tech facilities, full-time training, and round-the-clock support. But for the ladies from Singapore’s national hockey team, the reality is a little different — and that’s exactly what makes their story so powerful.
This is a team made up of students, working professionals, daughters, sisters, and friends — all juggling real-world responsibilities while chasing an ambitious dream: to represent Singapore at the highest level with pride, professionalism, and a big heart for the sport they love.
“It’s a commitment that demands everything. Time, heart and energy. Imagine juggling school, work and training high intensity.”
- The team’s co-captain, Phylicia Tanandika
Early morning gym sessions before work, ice-baths after evening trainings, and countless hours spent analysing game footage on tired MRT rides — this is their normal.
These athletes are relentless in their preparation. Fitness testing, recovery protocols, strength training, and tactical drills are all part of the weekly rhythm. They’ve embraced sports science, leaned into data, and pushed their limits — not because they have to, but because they want to.
They want to do right by the flag they wear on their chests. Watch the short interview below:

Diverse in their backgrounds but united in purpose, this team is a living, breathing reflection of Singaporean womanhood. From undergrads to working professionals, engineers to educators, every player brings her own story — and all of them share one thing: an unshakeable commitment to something bigger than themselves.
Off the pitch, they’re crunching data in offices, studying for exams, leading meetings, and caring for loved ones. On the pitch, they’re sprinting, sweating, scoring, and tackling like their lives depend on it. And somewhere in between, they’re calling their parents from hotel rooms, sharing laughs in apartment in Jakarta, and building bonds that go far beyond the sport.
The team is currently raising funds through their Hustle and Heart fundraising page — not just to support their immediate competition needs, but as part the bigger plan to build a sustainable future for women’s hockey in Singapore. They’re not waiting for handouts. They’re hustling — and asking the community to be part of this incredible journey.
Your donation doesn’t just cover flights or gears. It fuels dreams. It supports sleepless nights and early alarms. It sends a message that their sacrifices matter — and that their journey is yours too.
